Was inspired today by Smokkee…
If you haven’t read his post today I suggest you do. All I could say was…
YES COACH!
I CAN DO IT COACH!
I WON’T GET DONKED COACH!
I WILL KILL EM WITH THE HAMMER (7 2 off suit mom) COACH!
Sometimes we all need to get a good pep talk, unlike the ones I got by Coach Bohall when I was in school.
“Now son, I don’t care if it looks broken, keep running.”
“Keep your feet clean and dry boys, you don’t want foot itch migrating to crotch itch do you son?”
“You better be looking straight ahead son”
and my favorite heard over the locker room …
“Those towels better be put away or all of you punks are getting the paddle.”
Which brings me to the difference in inspiration today and yesterday. In the past you were inspired by fear, avoiding the paddle, don’t get jock itch, you better run or it will be broken. And how did that work? We raised a generation of rebels now who have to be coddled.
They call the newest generation the “Carrot” Generation because you have to tell them how good they are. Managers are going through clinics on how to address the “needs” of this new generation of employees.
The question I ask is , where is the desire to work hard and work your way up the company ladder. Everyone wants to be given something for nothing. I have people I know that want to be put in afternoon drive after doing a couple of part time shifts. It’s not going to happen. I had to work overnights every day for a year before I even got to sniff a chance to work a shift that didn’t involve kissing my ex-wife goodbye as she was falling asleep.
That was probably the hardest and rather than letting our marriage develop normally, I HAD to do what it took to get where I am today. BUT we are surrounded by ‘kids’ who have temper tantrums when they don’t get they job that they were unqualified for, but ‘deserved’.
Get off you ass…
Bust your ass…
And stop annoying me…
or I’ll send Coach Bohall to tan your hide

Good luck finding a cause for the pussies of this world. You can point a finger at baby-boomers having money to coddle their children with. Or perhaps the abundance of wealth that is flowing everywhere. This doesn’t explain the low-income/poor part of the population that STILL feels entitled to everything, which leads to theft, murder, and other crime. Nothing like someone who can’t afford to feed their kids refusing to quit smoking, or leasing a new truck.
Yay commercialism.
But I digress. This same attitude of something-for-nothing, and not having to pay one’s dues is pretty sickening. I work in a world where the term “bonus” means “entitlement to more money than we gave you last year, regardless of performance.” I’m the only one I know who expects a crappy bonus if I do a crappy job.
The same attitude suffuses into how we treat kids – everything’s antibacterial, padded, watched-over, approved… and safe. We end up with an abundance of allergies, kids who never get hurt (and therefore never learn), have no sense of independence, exploration, or ambition, and who get sick if someone sniffles because their immune system sucks from lack of exposure to anything remotely harmful.
That, and kids in Canada and the US today have to be the dumbest generation we’ve seen in 50 years. I look at the tests and essays my mother marks and shake my head at the pages and pages of idiocy that face me. Parents don’t care and by extension, the kids don’t care and cop an attitude of “I don’t need an education.” Which leads to a rude awakening in the real world… unless their boss is taking sensitivity training and courses on meeting employees needs.
As always, it all comes back to parenting.
I fear for our world. Then I remember that they’re doing okay in Asia, some parts of Europe, and that Africa will eventually have a better-educated population than us, and figure it’s just the rich countries that I should fear for.
I think my comment is longer than your post – yay me!
Hey! You’re first comment on someone’s blog can’t be mean! I’m pretty sure that’s in the rule book somewhere…but thanks for stopping by.
we all get “donked”. it’s what you do after you get donked that really matters.
Oooooo, ok. I see, yea I took a few of the good S words, didn’t I? And yes, the tripjax Torture video was the funniest I’ve seen from all the blogger silliness. LOL
