GCOX, I wanna hear the Matador song at Okie Vegas!!!!!
53 degrees and sunny in Lubbock for the last home game of the year has approached the Hub City. Texas Tech coming in after a heartbreaking loss at Oklahoma State trying to rebound versus the Oklahoma Sooners.
Tech 6-4 (3-3 in the Big 12) is looking for a key victory to improve their bowl prospects for this year, looking to the future and trying to figure out who will lead the Red Raiders in 2010.
Tech wins the toss because OU refused to pick the tech logo (which was heads) and Tech wants the ball.
Potts has confidence leading the first drive and is looking off his first choice everytime and Baron Batch is making moves down the field.
Potts is letting the game come to him, making plays when he needs to and not getting rattled. A big 3rd and 6 from the 16 and Tech will kick a FG. Lynwood is up and good. 3-0 Tech with 10:57 in the 1st.
Oklahoma drives but a chop block made it 2nd and 22. Good pursuit by the defense but a personal foul gives the Sooners a first down. Getting rid of bad penalties is the key to this game. The defense is showing up with aggressive attacking on the pass defense.
3rd and 10 at the 47 will be key stop of the drive. Jamar Wall almost intercepts the pass and we have a punt. OU has the wind but a bad bounce causes the 41 yard punt to end up at the RR 12.
This is the key drive of the first half for the RR. Your defense made a key stop, now keep OU off the field and make a difference with touchdowns, cause field goals won’t win this game. Or will it?
4th and 1 at your own 43. All year long Tech has been haunted by 4th and 1. Houston still haunts the Red Raiders, but Batch gets it across and the drive continues.
1 too many passes into coverage. Potts got lucky on one that should have been caught and returned for 6. But he wasn’t lucky this time and its as good as a punt. OU ball at their own 30.
OU tries the wildcat to Murray and loses 3. But an Okie lost in coverage allows OU to advance to the Tech 34. They try Murray on a screen and 4th and 5 will mean a 47 yard field goal from Oharra with the wind and it’s GOOD! 3-3 Tech with 1:24 in the 1st.
A quick 3 and out for the Red Raiders and the defense will have to make some plays. At least Tech will have the wind in the 2nd Q.
The second quarter starts with OU on the RR 40.
Potts is 11-19 with one interception for 104 yards. Landry Jones is 7-11 for 80 yards. The Red Raiders have held OU to 4 rushing yards.
But OU drove down to the Red Raider 15 with 3rd and 10 But a hands to the face personal foul brings it to the Tech 7. 1st and goal.
Will the defense bend , but not break? THEY DO! Pressure on Landry by Rajon Henly and forces OU to kick a FG. 6-3 OU with 10:42 in the 1st Half.
$95 tickets have limited the fans. Would you pay $95 or watch the game at home. Tech fans have said “HOME!”
Alec Torres takes the Potts pass and goes 65 yards to the OU 4.
After a pass interference Batch runs it in for a RED RAIDER TOUCHDOWN!
Lynwood is good and its 10-6 Red Raiders with 8:48 in the 2nd.
A quick 3 and out and OU will have to punt to the Tech 33.
Tech drives to the OU 33 with great play action choices and playcalling by Potts. What concussion ?
Potts to Austin Zouzalik for a RED RAIDER TOUCHDOWN!!!! Lynwood tacks on the extra point and it’s 17-6 with a 2 min drive. 4:58 in the first half left and it’s 17-6 Red Raiders.
HUGE SACK 11th sack of the year by Brandon Sharpe bringing up a 3rd and 18 for OU. OU no huddles and the screen is way short. The defense is fired up and OU has to punt inside his own end zone.
A 30 yard punt and Tech will start in OU territory!
But an incomplete pass and a short screen brings up 3rd and 9 from the OU 39 and a HUGE sack for OU back to the 50. A false start moves em back 5 and Tech will punt from their own 45. But it’s pushed into the end zone and OU will start with the ball at their own 20.
But an incomplete pass and a short screen brings up 3rd and 9 from the OU 39 and a HUGE sack for OU back to the 50. A false start moves em back 5 and Tech will punt from their own 45. But it’s pushed into the end zone and OU will start with the ball at their own 20.
OU starts with the ball in the 2nd half and they would like to score before the half. After a sack Leach runs to the 18 almost to the hash to get the time out. 3rd and 20 OU at their own 10. After OU gets it to the 24 with a 14 yard pass, Tech takes their second time out. Still over a minute on the clock and the head pirate would like to pad his lead. Even a field goal in this wind would be possible.
Fair caught punt to the Tech 39 and Tech has problems with moving the ball. And 4th and 1 Tech tries the old draw em off. The play of standing over the center calling out plays still hasn’t worked. And Tech will punt. Why take the third time out? Why not take the delay and let the wind help you? You still punt, but you could pin them.
OU takes a knee and it’s 17-6 at the half!
I’ll go down to the field and be back in the 4th.
The team looks aggressive. Holiday Bowl officials are looking at Tech and it would be a great selection for the Red Raiders. Most people are saying that the Sun Bowl would pick the Red Raiders. Either way it’s not the Toilet Bowl.
4th and 1, what do you do at your own 41? You put the game away and you hand it to Baron Batch up ahead for 5 and a first down.
Potts is evading the rush and making precision passes. Batch for 7, Batch for 5. He is picking his holes and DRIVING into the OU players. First and 10 at the OU 25 and Tech is looking to put this away.
And the 3rd quarter comes to an end 27-6 Red Raiders. Stoops is calling his entire team to the 33 for a COME TO STOOPS meeting.
Can the Red Raiders finish? Will they win? And yet another FG for rent for a year is good.
Um, the crazy 8 race… Um scared me… a lot.
GCOX, I wanna hear the Matador song at Okie Vegas!!!!!
I pay off my bets… UGH
The Red Raiders look to finish this game so I can hear GCox sing the Matador Song at Okie-Vegas.
Matador Song
Fight, Matadors, for Tech!
Songs of love we’ll sing to thee,
Bear our banners far and wide.
Ever to be our pride,
Fearless champions ever be.
Stand on heights of victory.
Strive for honor evermore…
Long live the Matadors!
8:31 in the 4th and Tech will win this one going away. OU was never able to get their offense going and the bend but don’t break defense held together like the Kansas and Nebraska games.
But OU scores a meaningless TD and then the 8 min Red Raider clock march begins.
Good Game guys. You made us proud!
