Let the rebuilding begin…

Folks, we had our shot at UT this year and though we didn’t win , we at least didn’t finish dead last in the Big 12 South. It was a year where we wanted to take two steps forward and yet we took two steps back.

Yes, my friends, I bet against the Red Raiders.

You see I knew that I would LOVE them to win by more than 9 and the gifts that I would have to pay my wife would be mere inconvenience to me.

But my heart wasn’t there.  How many Red Raider fans showed up to the game? Probably more than the Northwestern Wildcats for sure, but they didn’t show up as they had in the past.  Maybe it was almost having to be bowl qualified by the use of a FBS win that spurred the alumni.  Maybe it was the $75 ticket prices that hurt them too.  Maybe that the students didn’t get a discounted rate hurt.  If I was someone who paid $75 and heard about the discounting to $25 that the bowl officials made before game time, I’d be asking for my money back.

I wanted to go to the game. I just didn’t think I would get any decent seats even at $75.  Boy, I was wrong.  ESPNU knew this game was going to be a disappointment by the camera angles that showed mostly full portions of the stadium.  Anytime someone looked at the end zones they showed what really was happening, empty seats. Why did the empty seats happen?  Because they overpriced an 11:00 A.M. game between 2 7-5 schools.  I thought a ticket broker would have known better.

Was I disappointed about not going to the Ticket City Bowl?

No, it was this season.  It didn’t feel like football at all during the season.  We faced our arch-nemesis’ and got beat down by both A&M and UT.  We won games against Colorado and Missouri that Coach Leach could never get done.

But the season didn’t feel like fall.  It went from summer to winter and there was no falling leaves or anticipation of the game day experience.

It fell flat this year.

But 2011 is a new year and we have the spring to look forward to. We will be looking at a new starting QB with a tough opening game away versus TCU before home stints with New Mexico and Nevada before hitting the Big 10 play, I mean 12. Sorry, ironic that we only have 10 and we still call ourselves 12, never mind.

I am looking forward to seeing year 2 of the four year plan.

Because every coach has 4 years to see his recruits come in and make an impact.  Some people think that we have a top 30 recruiting class this year.  I’ll believe it in 2013-2014 when the freshman that will enter in the fall of 2011 come back as Juniors making an impact on the Big 12.

Yes, we won but didn’t cover.  And yes, my wife is doing dishes as we speak penalty for her flawed optimism of a 7-5 team.

But I have optimism for 2011.

Either that or I can wait for hell to freeze over.

Where did it go?

The Browns have lost their # 7 draft pick! :-)

I love when people make moronic mistakes.  NBC Sports has the Cleveland Browns passing their 7th pick.  What maroons.  Imbeciles!  Check your work morons!

I swear the Browns had the 7th pick in the NFL Draft on Friday!!!!

Texas Tech vs Texas A&M

A&M wins the toss and defers. Tech will receive and defend the north goal. Winds coming out of the South.

77 Degrees

West wsw 10-20 mph, low of 45.

Tech is looking to avoid the dreaded Trap game. That game that they should win, but fails to. But I think we’ve already played Houston.

6:00 0n the South Plains and we have football in the Hub City. Touchback and Tech will start their opening drive at the 20.

First 4th and 1 and do they sneak it? NO! They pass it for a 56 yard touchdown pass to Alexander Torres. TOUCHDOWN RED RAIDERS!

Williams tacked it on and its 7-0   8 plays 80 yard in 2:08.

A&M starts at their own 20 for their first drive.  Today Nebraska lost to Iowa State.  Obviously that’s my fault too.

Have I mention that A&M sucks? Fumble by Nwachukwu recovered by the Franklin Mitchem first down Red Raiders.

But Tech has penalty problems with an illegal formation and a 15 yard face mask bring up 4th and 26.

Tech punts and A&M will start at their own 14 yard line.

The key will be who will self destruct the worst? A&M’s defense or Tech’s offense?

With every play the Tech defense is going after the ball, pawing and stripping at it.  But how about a tackle?  We have a Ryan Hyatt sighting.  Over / Under of him leaving for the day is with 2 min left in the first half.

A&M breaks down the Tech blitz and the screen is good for an A&M Touchdown.  7-7 tie with 8:19 in the first quarter.

Time to attack Raider fans… Flare pass to Jeffers and its good enough for a first down.

Flare to the right, flare to the left and the Red Raiders continue to drive down the field. Props to Potts who is checking down to the run and letting Batch and Jeffers do the pounding. But as soon as I say that…he overthrows attempting to get the ball to Batch and A&M will start their drive at their own 29.

A big 3rd down for the defense and a leg whip by the defense will turn 3rd and 2 into 3rd and 17 at the A&M 28 which is covered quickly and the turnover will not cost the Red Raiders.  One turnover for both teams and no points off turnovers for either.

Tech will start at their own 14. Let the Baron Batch show begin with big runs and one significant runover of Trent Hunter who is is still looking for the truck that hit him.

But Tech fights back after a late hit penalty and drives into A&M territory.  As the 1st quarter comes to an end Tech is at the A&M 26.  Potts to Edward Britton for a 26 yard TD! Great play because Potts waited for Britton to post up in the middle of the zone and Jacoby Franks made a great block opening the sideline for Britton.  TOUCHDOWN Red Raiders.

8 plays, 86 yards, 2:53 to drive and score.   With 30 seconds left in the first quarter Tech leads their in-state rival 14-7.

A&M is averaging 6 yards a carry and the Red Raiders need to tighten up.

And just as fast as Tech scores, A&M counters and with 13:41 in the 1st half it’s 14 all.

By the time I get back to the press box it’s 28-14.

The last pass by Potts was HORRIBLE.  Paging Seth Doege, paging Seth Doege… your starting assignment is waiting for you.

Well, what will halftime show up?

So far A&M can still spread the field and run.  Quarterback can run… I miss Sheffield already.

44 Yard TD run and this game could be over.  Not in the way that we expected.  ‘

Potts comes to the field so a myriad  of groans.  A&M really wants this game and we don’t seem to want it enough.

It’s official. Potts is HEINOUS!

The Boos are incredible. Where I am at are sealed and you can hear the boos.  Texas A&M haven’t won here  since 1993.  Looks like 16 year wait was good enough.

The stadium is starting to empty and we still have 10 min left in the 3rd quarter.

52-30 Texas A&M.

Congrats to my sisters Kirstin and Kelly bot A&M Grads. You won it! Way to go!

This year is officially over.  We had an WAYYYY outside shot at the Fiesta bowl, but that’s gone now and I think Shreveport is a perfect place for this football team.

After the year of greatness by Harrell and Crabtree, Tech fans have to tolerate and remember, there once when people said that we would finish 4th in the Big 12 South.  Let’s be realistic.  We are 5 and 3 now.  Kansas, Oklahoma State will be a battle, OU will be impossible, and we’ll win against Baylor. 6 and 6 is probable. 7 & 5 near impossible. 8& 4 Miracle. and we WON’T finish 9 and 3.
