I want you to remember the heartaches that Texas Tech have had to suffer through the last 25 years. Yup, it’s been 25 years since the 1989 All American Bowl Victory vs Duke for the Red Raiders to finish 9-3. But Sean, I hear you crying, “we’ve done better, 2007, 2008.” We’ve also done worse, 2011, 1996-2001, 1990-1994 just to give you some examples.
We can’t live in mediocrity any more. We’ve had coaches that have allowed it, we’ve had coaches that were miserable and we’ve kicked out coaches because they didn’t fit in with administration and the good ole boys network.
We, as a fan base, needed a fresh start. We needed a unifying candidate. Tech gave the university and their fans Kliff Kingsbury.
Wow.
A breath of fresh air on the South Plains. He relates to the players, he’s played at the highest level and developed players to make their mark at the highest level.
What more can we ask for?
Fine, I’ll do it.
Kliff, give the Red Raider Nation a Big 12 title in the next 2-3 years.
You still have major national presence and have recruited well. When your players relate to you like this,
You can ask them to do anything for you and they will.
Bring the Red Raider Nation a Big 12 title. It’s not like I’m asking for a National Championship, but now that you bring it up…
Why do I honor Palmer, Player and Nicklaus like golf gods and ignore Woods, Mickleson and Garcia? Because the former played golf for the love of the game. They played with honor and played as much as they could because golf didn’t have big tournament purses. They needed that money to survive. Now golf players have equipment that are 1000 times better than the clubs in Palmer’s time and people shoot in the 60’s like it was taking the trash out.
It wasn’t easy for Palmer, Player and Nicklaus, but they will always be heroes to me, because they played the game without sponsor exemptions and with technology. They played cause they loved the game.
So this morning 3 of my gold heroes Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus teed off to start the 2014 Masters. The old guard will be pushed aside , but as long as we never forget them.
I hope that Tiger Woods never beats Jack Nicklaus. Yes, Tiger has skills and talent, but he has the heart of a corporation.
2014 is a crucial year for our republic. Why? It isn’t because of the ton of political ads that we will start to see between now and 2016, nope it’s because of 4 senior citizens. You may think I am crazy, but the most crucial part of these next 2 election cycles will be the balance of the United States Senate.
Why?
Because the Hon. Ruth Bader Ginsberg is 81 and has already survived colon and pancreatic cancer.
Because the Hon. Anthony Scalia is 78.
Because the Hon. Anthony Kennedy is 77.
Because the Hon. Stephen Breyer is is 75.
If any of the 4 of these justices were to die or retire, it would put an enormous strain on balance of the court. If Scalia and Kennedy were to leave first, the 5-4 conservative balance could be in jeopardy.
I’m a independent, and I know that years of wise decisions are a heartbeat away from being changed.
Think about that.
Whichever party holds the reins of the Senate, holds the country’s fate.
This weekend of rest has come to a conclusion. I’ve spent the last 48 hours thinking about the fortune that have been blessed upon me and my family. From the support of my parents and siblings, to the everlasting love of my wife Joanna Watson Donahue I have been lucky beyond belief. (more…)
There may be weaknesses, but there always is the strength of a wall
Ladies and gentlemen, there are people in this world who intend to use you. They need your experience, God given talents, enthusiasm, love, compassion, everything in the world they do not and can not have.
They can’t help it.
Their solution to not being able to do what you can do with ease, is to talk to you, offer you a title, a position or “an opportunity that you can’t refuse.”
Guess what? You can refuse it and it will be to your best interest to do so. Why?
They can’t do it.
They don’t have your drive, ability to communicate, technical skills. They don’t have your way with people, fashion sense, any abilities that are their shortcomings. They can’t stand that you have what they need.
So they will low ball you. Offer you things and opportunities that may be better than what you have, but NOT what you need.
Look at them, they need you. They must pay. Yes, you will help them but at a price that would cause a wise man to wince and a sane man to go insane. They must give you what you need and they will never give up.
Control.
You are strong and if you give in anything. Don’t give in on this fact… if you don’t control it, you can’t save/manipulate/help/fix/improve it. You are under the control of another, in the end, their thoughts and desires are nowhere NEAR the thoughts and desires of yours.
You will always lose when you are under another persons control.
A year ago I was asked to join an organization.
One that was meant to help people. I thought it was a good idea. It was a collaborative effort. But someone else had the control and collaboration meant doing whatever they wanted with everything under their umbrella of influence.
I stayed and helped until I realized, I wasn’t gaining anything from this collaboration.
I was working for someone who had the control and in the end, the power.
When I balked, they yelled and screamed, telling me that I had no knowledge and or influence. I was a failure and would end up without any true power or influence. They berated me, my wife, anyone who would listen.
So I took my ball and left.
I left the circus because I was tired of walking the tightrope without a net while the ring master called me a clown.
Do you know what happened today?
The circus came to town, hat in hand, asking for my assistance. They asked me to “join the group again as it wasn’t the same without you.”
I did not reply.
The circus is in my area. Asking for me to stand next to them while they paint me up in clown makeup.
Sorry. I just won’t do it.
I’m doing things for me and I’m going to start to tell you a plan I have made.
Not all at once, but piece by piece.
I’ve declared myself independent. Yes, I don’t have 5,000 people reading me, but the 10 that do matter. They tell 3-4 of their friends when I have hit the nail on the head and sooner or later I’ll have the people here reading what I have to say.
But I’m sorry “Trixie,” I don’t have time for your pipe dreams using me, to improve you, at my expense.
So I’m asking you, my friends to do one thing.
Find the people trying to put clown makeup on you, kick em with your “clown shoes” and I’ll see you when all our plans come true.
Some future posts will be locked. Not because I don’t trust you, but because the secrets just aren’t ready yet. Be patient.
Walls have to go up before they go crashing to the ground.
